From Lab to Lunch: Proteins to Feed the World

A healthy diet consists of three essential macronutrients: fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. By incorporating a variety of protein sources into our meals, we can ensure we are meeting our body's needs and promoting overall health and well-being.

Established 1818: The Story of Protein Research at the University of Hohenheim

Proteins are in practically everything we eat: meat, poultry, fish, eggs and dairy, whole grains, vegetables and legumes, fruits, nuts, and seeds.

Everyone should have access to enough proteins in their daily diet, but not everyone does. The situation will get even worse in the near future. Within the next twenty years or so, there will be 9 billion people on the planet. How can we provide enough food for us all when today's food production is already a huge hazard to our planet?

This is where the story of the University of Hohenheim's protein research starts. Scientists are thinking up many options to improve food production for humans and animals alike. Improving protein efficiency is one way to do that.

Join us on our journey through the multiverse of protein research that is going on in Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, Europe, Planet Earth.
